v0.3.0 · zero-question install

From the real world to CAD. With your AI agent.

Photos → measured 3D model. Drawing → part. Scan → parametric CAD. Automatic renders. Open source, 100 % local, on GPU or CPU.

01Capture

Your photos, checked before you waste a minute.

reverse3d checks sharpness, exposure, texture and overlap between views, and tells you which photo to retake. Then COLMAP works out where each image was taken from.

  • SIFT/ORB + RANSAC analysis
  • Actionable recommendations
  • Masks and silhouettes from photos or drawings
OpenCVCOLMAP SfM
Ask it like this

“Turn the photos in mug/ into a 3D model and tell me its dimensions.”

02Reconstruction

Thousands of points that become your object.

Dense multi-view reconstruction (MVS) on the GPU, or a single photo turned into a 2.5D relief with AI depth estimation. All on your machine.

  • SfM → dense MVS → point cloud
  • Depth Anything V2 (CUDA / Apple MPS)
  • Automatic CPU fallback, no failures
COLMAP MVSDepth Anything V2PyTorch
Ask it like this

“Make a 3D relief from this photo: logo.jpg”

03Mesh

A clean, watertight mesh at real scale.

Poisson meshing and full repair: loose fragments, holes, normals, Taubin smoothing, decimation and axis alignment.

  • Screened Poisson
  • Hole filling and watertightness
  • OBB/PCA alignment and scale
Open3Dtrimesh
Ask it like this

“Repair scan.stl, align it and get it ready to print.”

04Reverse engineering

Dimensions, primitives and editable parametric CAD.

Measures dimensions, area and volume; detects planes, cylinders and spheres with RANSAC, and writes OpenSCAD and CadQuery code you can edit.

  • AABB/OBB dimensions, volume, center of mass
  • Planes, cylinders and spheres (radii and axes)
  • Exports cad.scad and cad.py
NumPy RANSACOpenSCADCadQuery
Ask it like this

“This drawing bracket.png is 120 mm wide; make me the part 4 mm thick.”

05Render

A studio render, without opening Blender.

Headless Blender with Cycles or Eevee, on OptiX, CUDA, HIP, Metal or oneAPI, whichever you have. Turntables included.

  • Hardened Cycles / Eevee
  • 36-view turntable
  • PyVista as a lightweight fallback
Blender 5.2PyVista
Ask it like this

“Render part.glb in metallic blue.”

What it solves

Your AI agent already writes code. Now it can measure the real world.

Going from a physical object to a faithful CAD model has always been slow, expensive or cloud-dependent. reverse3d joins the whole workflow (photos or scan, reconstruction, metrology and parametric CAD) and hands it to your agent.

Who it is for

From the workshop to the classroom, from the lab to your desk.

Engineers, makers, students, teachers and developers use it for the same thing: turning real objects into useful models, without licenses or the cloud.

Why it is different

The full workflow, in one place.

There is good photogrammetry software and good modeling MCP servers, but each covers only part of the job. We know of no other open source tool that goes from photos or scans to parametric CAD with real dimensions, locally and driven by your agent.

Agents

One installer. All your agents.

reverse3d setup registers the MCP server in every agent it finds, backs up each file before touching it and pre-approves the tools so you are not asked on every use.

Another MCP client? reverse3d setup --snippets prints the exact block to paste.

Talk normally, or use a shortcut.

In Claude Code they show up as /mcp__reverse3d__name; in Claude Desktop, under + → reverse3d. Command names are in Spanish.

GPU or CPU

Uses your GPU if you have one. Works just as well if you don't.

Detects NVIDIA CUDA and Apple Silicon automatically. Switch by saying “use the GPU”: it applies instantly, no restart.

Token savings

Built to spend little context.

Every round trip avoided also saves resending the whole conversation history.

  • −82%

    fewer tokens with recipes

1 call instead of 5–6; details go to report.json

  • −65%

smaller schemas with the lean toolset

    4,147 → 1,466 tokens of definitions

  • −44%

    fewer tokens per call

Compact output: relative paths, no nulls

Security

Local by design. Secure by default.

Your agents work inside a sandbox, with no credentials and nothing leaving your machine.

What the installer does

  1. 1

    Private Python

uv downloads a Python 3.12 into ~/.reverse3d. Your system Python is untouched.

  2. 2

    Isolated environment

    Everything lives in ~/.reverse3d/venv.

  3. 3

    All modules

Open3D, PyVista and PyTorch: CUDA with NVIDIA, CPU otherwise.

  4. 4

    Blender and COLMAP

Pinned portable versions, verified with SHA-256.

  5. 5

    reverse3d command

    Available on your user PATH.

  6. 6

    Connects your agents

reverse3d setup registers the MCP server in every agent it finds, with a backup first.

  7. 7

    Verifies

reverse3d doctor checks everything. Restart your agent and you are done.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is reverse3d?

An open source tool by Voxel Enterprise for 3D modeling and reverse engineering with AI agents. It turns photos, drawings and scans into measured 3D models, parametric CAD code (OpenSCAD and CadQuery) and renders, all locally.

Is there another tool that does the same?

There is photogrammetry software and there are modeling MCP servers that each cover part of the process. We know of no other open source tool that joins the whole workflow (photos or scan, real dimensions and parametric CAD) locally and driven by your AI agent.

Is it useful for 3D printing?

Yes. It produces watertight STLs at scale, and parametric CAD to adjust tolerances before printing. It also makes reliefs from a photo, for example for lithophanes.

Can I use it at work or in class?

Yes. The Apache-2.0 license allows commercial and educational use, and everything runs locally, without uploading parts to the cloud.

Is it free?

Yes. reverse3d is open source under Apache-2.0, created by Voxel Enterprise. Blender, COLMAP and the models keep their own licenses; the default Depth Anything V2 Small model is Apache-2.0.

Do I need a GPU?

No. It detects NVIDIA CUDA and Apple Silicon automatically; without a GPU everything runs on the CPU without failing. Switch any time by saying “use the GPU” or “use the CPU”.

Do my files leave my computer?

No. Everything is processed locally and reverse3d needs no credentials of any kind.

How much space and time does it take?

About 4 GB and 10 to 20 minutes depending on your connection. Lite mode saves up to 2.5 GB. If it is interrupted, run it again: it resumes where it stopped.

My agent doesn't see the tools

Restart the agent. Run reverse3d setup and check the status column, or use reverse3d setup --snippets to configure it by hand.

reverse3d: command not found

Open a new terminal or use ~/.reverse3d/venv/bin/reverse3d (Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.reverse3d\venv\Scripts\reverse3d.exe).

How do I know my copy is official?

Releases are published from signed tags with Sigstore attestations. Verify with: gh attestation verify FILE --repo rellytechgame/Reverse3D-tool

Your next part starts with one sentence.

Copy it, paste it into your agent and in a few minutes you will be measuring your first model.
